Cononley loop from Bingley

Three Cake Ride

This 3 cake ride is for those who are confident in traffic, as it is all on roads.

Below is some guidance on some of the more technical parts of the ride:

  1. You will cycle away from Bingley towards Keighley and will need to cross the roundabout at the Dalesway Pub – note that you need to be in the right-hand lane to go straight over.
  2. You will turn right in Sandbeds on to the cycle path. Take care as you continue on to the shared cycle and pedestrian path, then under the bridge which is single file traffic.
  3. As you turn into Sutton-in-Craven you will turn right at the mini roundabout. Shortly after that will be your first hill challenge of the ride. It is a steep, but fairly short hill and you will need to turn right at the top. Once you have turned and are clear of the junction, it’s a good place for a breather & a drink.
  4. As you continue down the hill, be sure to descend with care. This stretch of road is uneven in places and sometimes gravelly.
  5. When you have cycled through Cononley, as you approach the give way sign, where it crosses the A629, you will need to dismount your bike and cross over. There’s a traffic island in the middle which makes it safer and quicker to get across.
  6. At this point, there is the option of joining the canal back to Bingley or continuing with the route.
  7. As you approach the roundabout heading away from Farnhill, turn right onto the pedestrian underpass. You will need to dismount here. At the end of the path, rejoin the road, turning right.
  8. As you continue up and just over the bridge, turn left onto the snicket, which is just in front of Paceline Cycles. Take care, as this is a shared pedestrian path too. Turn right at the end to re-join the road.

There aren’t many hills on this ride, and it’s not too long. A good one for road/traffic practice.
